Learn More and Work on Your Plan
Recommended Activities
- Put in some inventory plots in your stand(s) using the techniques learned on the field trip.
- Review the Forest Inventory Section Examples and begin to draft your inventory section using the field data you collected.
- Make a list of all the wildlife species (birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians) that you are aware of that use your property (based on sightings, tracks, droppings, etc.).
- Make an inventory of the wildlife habitat features on your property. Use the Wildlife Habitat Inventory Sheet (PDF) if you wish.
- Identify some activities you would like to undertake to enhance wildlife habitat on your property (e.g., thinning, gap creation, habitat piles, nest boxes, snag creation).
- Use the information above to draft the wildlife section (Resource Category 6) of your plan, using the Wildlife Section Examples as a guide.
- Study the resource maps of your property. Using the Water Resources Section Examples as a guide, draft the water quality/riparian & fish habitat/wetlands section of your forest stewardship plan (Resource Category 3). Note any streams or wetlands, their types. Describe management considerations, protection measures, and any opportunities for habitat enhancement.
- Watch the Threatened and Endangered Species Video.
- Use the information you’ll receive from Kevin and the Special Resources and Biodiversity Section Examples (PDF) to write the protection of special resources and biodiversity (Resource Category 7) section of your plan
