Trail Building 101 Workshop
A hands-on trail building experience
Sold out! This event is now full. Please contact Sarah Stewart at sarah.stewart1@wsu.edu to be put on a waiting list.
Join WSU Extension Forestry and a Washington Conservation Corps Trail Building Specialist to learn the basics of trail building. At this workshop, you will learn the principles of sustainable trail design and construction as well as an intro to hand building tread and using common trail tools. This is an opportunity to ask a trail building expert all your trail building questions and learn about trails through hands-on learning, as we will be building an actual section of trail!
We should have enough tools for everyone, but bringing your own shovel, hoe (or anything for scrapping), lopper (or other clipping tool), or pick, would be much appreciated. If you do bring your own tools, please mark them in a way that indicates they are yours.
Most of this workshop will be hands-on, in the brush and understory of the forest. The terrain is generally flat but contains many trip hazards – boots or sturdy shoes are required. Please dress appropriately and be prepared to get wet and dirty. A portable restroom will be available near the parking area. Water will be available throughout the event. We will not have seating available during lunch, so please plan accordingly. Please note, this workshop involves several hours of work using hand tools to build a section of trail.
